- I'm experiencing major problems with my MacroSystem MultiEvolution
- 500 (evolution.device version 3.0 plus 2 Mb fast, 0.5 ranger, 0.5
- chip, Kickstart 2.04 and Workbench 2.1, ROM filesystem) and my 1
- Gb Conner CFP1080S. The disk has been divided into five partitions
- of 100, 300, 300, 250 and 78 Mb, dedicated to system files and
- applications, three times not-sure-yet and spool disk for UUCP.
- As said, all partitions use the ROM-resident FFS, except for the
- first, which uses muFS (but I had the problem before).
-
- (Anyone interested in my chipset and motherboard revisions?)
-
- I keep having read/write errors on the Spool partition, on blocks
- around 145557, anyway, the higher blocks of the partition. This
- could be a fault of the three months old Conner, but I was having
- the same problems with my previous disk, a (rather old) Quantum
- 52S when the disk was getting full, so I'm somewhat suspicious
- against the evolution.device.
-
- I can't seem to fix the problem with DiskSalv (it looks like it
- just Guru'd on the disk) and I can't seem to lock out those blocks.
- Another thing that happens, is that I can't format any of the
- partitions, but I was told that that is normal. Though I managed
- to format the spool disk the other day, until - you guess it - that
- one block.
-
- Now I could try and make the partition a few Mb's smaller, but I
- was wondering if anyone else is having problems with a Multi-
- Evolution and the higher blocks on a partition or disk. Is there
- a patch available? If not, how can I mark blocks as bad in a more
- friendly manner than HDToolBox' cylinder/head/sector requester?
-
- I'm spending most of the time repairing my disk and that is getting
- a bit annoying. I can't fetch my UUCP feed and my 500 is switched
- on for more than a day at a stretch, while it has to feed the
- drive's power as well.
-
- So please, help me out with it, that I can use it until I buy
- another system (which, I'm afraid, will be something Intel
- based... :-( job-, price/performance- and software-related).
-
- Share and enjoy,
- Peter.
